Do you want to shower outside – but with some privacy? This DIY outdoor shower surround kit allows you to easily build a custom-looking enclosure in just a few hours.
DIY Outdoor Shower Enclosure Kits:
It has 2 tall side wall panels plus rooftop slats to obscure the view from a second floor window. It’s hard to compare this enclosure with cheaper folding privacy screens, because it’s taller, more stable and durable.
In fact, this structure is made with premium weather-proof vinyl, so it will last a long time with virtually no maintenance. Plus, it comes with a 10-year warranty.
Note: This structure needs to be secured to the ground for stability and strength. You can either use a surface mount kit for concrete pads or decks – or in-ground extension posts for ground installations.
Easy DIY Shower Fixture & Base:
This shower structure does not include a base, so you may want to get a wooden floor mat with slats. You can use these outside, plus they let water drain away from your feet and provide a non-slip surface for showering.
You can also buy a freestanding outdoor shower that comes with a wood mat. It simply connects to a standard garden hose, saving you time and money.
With this easy setup, you don’t have to worry about complicated or costly plumbing installations. Plus, you don’t have to mount the shower to a wall or fence. However, you only get cold water.
I really like this design because it doesn’t require a lot of space. You can have a small patio or side yard, and this shower setup can work great.
Outdoor Shower Ideas: Adding a Shower Curtain
This shower enclosure kit does not come with a privacy door, but you can easily hang a curtain. I suggest using a white tension rod to match the white vinyl frame because they are cheap and easy to install.
In addition, you can use invisible rod holders to provide extra support to the rod without requiring tools. They only cost about $8, and they prevent your curtain rod from accidentally slipping.
You can choose from a wide variety of polyester shower curtains and customize the look of your outdoor shower. However, I’d get one that measures 72″ or shorter so that it doesn’t brush against the ground.
All that said, if you prefer a swing-open door to a shower curtain, check out the Hampton Shower Enclosure Kit. (Model #ZP19009).

Wood Outdoor Shower Enclosure – that You Can Move:
Alternatively, you can opt for a folding, lightweight privacy screen that you can lift, carry and move. However, these are typically designed to conceal outdoor air conditioners or other equipment, so they aren’t as tall.
Plus, you’ll want to paint or seal it to protect the wood from frequent water exposure. Otherwise, it may not last as long.
All that said, portable privacy screens can save you some money. Plus, they may work better for some solar shower setups or solar pool showers that require sunlight to heat the water.
